Completed in only four days, Cheeba Gold merges Emancipator and 9 Theory’s individual styles into a hypnotic hybrid that blurs sonic boundaries and cultural borders. Reflecting on the dynamic nature of their collaboration, Appling says, “We got together with the idea of making one song and based on how fluid that process was, we decided to make an EP.” “We are both very knowledgeable of recording, editing, and mixing with Ableton Live, and we both are able to play real instruments, so we were constantly going back and forth on everything,” adds Lehner. “This also created an atmosphere where we could move quickly and bang out an entire song in a day.”
