The heartbreaking news of Nujabes’ death was announced today. He died February 26 in a traffic accident in Tokyo at age 36. He was a legendary producer in the world of underground jazzy-hiphop. A true master of his craft, he combined beautiful melodies with his signature production style to create some of the most soulful pieces of music the world has known.
I have fond memories of the day I spent at his house by the sea in Japan two years ago. I also met his close friend and collaborator Uyama Hiroto that day. This experience was my inspiration for the song ‘Kamakura.’
I am forever grateful for him reaching out to me from across the world and inviting me to be a part of Hydeout Productions. For mastering my first album, “Soon It Will Be Cold Enough.” For featuring ‘With Rainy Eyes’ on Hydeout’s “2nd Collection.” For all that I have learned from him and the inspiration he has  given me and countless others.
Thank you for your beautiful music. Thank you for everything, Nujabes. Rest in Peace. You will be missed.
With rainy eyes,
Doug / Emancipator
